I love making dresses out of bedsheets for a few reasons:
- They are so damn comfy
- They sometimes have more interesting patterns than the cotton you can buy in store
- They are free
- (Most important for me) No pre-shrinking needed!
Granted, this is only the second dress involving bedsheets, but we dont have much unused bedsheets around. This fabric is terribly dark as a bedcover for our bed, so we didnt use it much. I cut it up and re-made Vogue 8380 using that fabric. I did make the bust and waist bands wider and put a rubber band through the waist band and did not use a zipper. Whew! so much more comfortable than my last version.
Look at how big kaylee is!
Oh! and I got a haircut! The splitends were driving me crazy so chop chop! all gone!
My new birthday purchase reminded me that I have an awesome Elna that I havent sewn with for a while. This dress is made only using my little Elna grasshopper 🙂 There are somethings I learnt about that machine, will share with you soon!

Wow I love this dress on you, it looks better than your Hawaiian version. You are looking really cute preggers with that new hairstyle. I can imagine your little girl is going to be very lucky to have a mummy who can sew so well.
thank you! i think i like this fabric better too 🙂 it is definitely more comfy!
Super cute – love it and you are looking fantastic.
hehe thank you~ 🙂
Awww, that dress looks awesome on you. I bought this pattern a few months ago but still haven’t made it. Using a sheet is a great idea & I like your idea to add elastic & nix the zipper. Fabulous!
sew ne now! 😀 it doesnt take too long as it is not lined.
This dress is so you =) And you look fantastic in your new haircut!
haha yes! thanks 🙂
oh you are so cute! love the dress! I really need to sew for myself a bit more as 4 little kids seem to take priority over everything!!! I’m 5ft on a good day so I think I like your blog already:)

I was thinking about how much I loved this dress design, and then I realized it’s Vogue 8380 which I contemplated buying today! It looks lovely on you 🙂 Great work! I use bed sheets sometimes, too!
